Could a Counselling or Psychotherapy service help your child?
Parents often say that the lives of their children are very different to those that they experienced. For example, Primary school children now face academic tests as part of their school life and are also exposed to new technology at an increasingly early age.
These new demands run alongside both the physical and emotional changes that take place in the body as the child’s brain develops an increasing capacity to cope with other school based problems such as bullying, friendship difficulties and meeting curriculum demands. It is not surprising that these factors can impact upon the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people.
When a child struggles to manage the influences upon their life counselling may be an effective option. By working with a counsellor the young person has a safe space to explore the many changes they may be experiencing and start to build up their resilience to cope.
In 2016, Newman University launched a new wellbeing service for the community - Newman Health & Wellbeing – which includes a Counselling & psychotherapy service.
“Our counselling service brings the skills of practitioners, tutors and trainee practitioners together to deliver a professional counselling service at an affordable rate.” Colette Lewis – Clinical Manager.
The Counselling and Psychotherapy service for children works with children as young as three with a wide range of individual emotional, psychological and social stressors such as those mentioned above. Sessions can either be undertaken within a school setting or at our own building on the Newman University campus which has a suite of therapy rooms including a play therapy room.
We also offer a counselling service for adults based in our own building in Bartley Green – with appointments available Monday – Friday, including evenings.
