Miffy to launch transformed Waterstones High Street bookshop this weekend

Children’s favourite Miffy will be at Waterstones High Street bookshop in Birmingham on Saturday 14th November as the bookshop celebrates  re-opening  to the public with a special family fun day.

There’ll be so much to enjoy as Waterstones launches its new bookshop in style. Join in the Kids Character Treasure Hunt and enjoy special performances from Equador – Bubble Wizard and entertainment from a 40 strong Rock Choir.  There’ll be spot prizes for youngsters dressed as their favourite book character and face painting fun, story time and crafting sessions in the brand new children’s department throughout the day.

Closed for nine weeks during the autumn, Waterstones has invested in a comprehensive renovation of the interior and exterior of the much loved city centre bookshop. Now with six floors of books, two cafés, new furniture and a striking new shop front, the state of the art High Street bookshop is set to cement its reputation as  Waterstones flagship Midlands store.

The new Children’s department is at the heart of the redevelopment. The huge third floor is now entirely devoted to an unrivalled range of children’s books suitable for tots to teens, with an active child-centred events programme, reading groups, regular crafting activities and parent and toddler storytime sessions.

Waterstones new Children’s department comes with its own family friendly 42 seat café. Serving a healthy range of Innocent drinks and child-friendly fruit snacks from Bear, the café will also offer organic Fairtrade soft drinks from Karma Cola and free babyccinos.  Youngsters will also be able to enjoy yummy homemade cupcakes by Birmingham-based kitchen baker From Kimmies Kitchen and have a go at decorating their own cakes too!

With baby changing facilities, a slide, fish tank and crafting table, Waterstones High Street children’s department will be the perfect environment to inspire young readers.

Stuart Bartholomew, Waterstones Regional Manager in Birmingham says

“ We’re very excited about our new children’s department. With its impressive range of books, child friendly facilities, activities and café, it really is the perfect city centre spot to spend time with the family. ”

Waterstones High Street will officially be declared open on Saturday 14th November 2015
