Update on the continued temporary closure of Birmingham Hippodrome

19 Mar 2020

Following the recent government guidelines, Birmingham Hippodrome has taken the difficult decision to continue with the temporary closure of the venue to the general public until 20 April, 2020. As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we will be constantly reviewing this date over the coming weeks.

The safety and health of our staff and visitors is our number one priority. We will continue to follow any recommendations from the relevant authorities and implement all appropriate instructions accordingly.

During this period of temporary closure to the general public, suspended activity includes all productions in our auditorium and Patrick Studio, the Open Doors foyer activity, coffee bar and off-stage educational activity.

Please see below a list of productions and other ticketed events affected during this timeframe:

The Book of Mormon 16 – 28 March 2020
DX – Mariposa 27 – 28 March 2020
DX – Udance WM 29 March 2020
Let’s Dance 30 March 2020
Faulty Towers Dining Experience 1 – 4 April 2020
Romesh Ranganathan 2 April 2020
Street Food at Romesh Ranganathan 2 April 2020
Bollywood Divas 4 April 2020

Message in a Bottle 8 – 9 April 2020
Priscilla: Queen of the Desert 13 – 18 April 2020
Flower Cutters 17 – 18 April 2020

We are in daily discussions with the producers and the ticket sales team will be in touch with all those affected to discuss options for each production as soon as possible. The team will be dealing with a high volume of bookings, so we kindly ask all ticket holders to avoid contacting Birmingham Hippodrome directly to minimise incoming inquiries. Please bear with us during this time and thank you for your on-going patience.

If you are attending a performance post the date of April 20, any further updates or information will be shared as soon as it is available. Please do keep checking our website and social media channels for the latest updates.

Thank you for your continued support:

This is a worrying time for the arts industry and as an independent charity we receive no regular public funding, relying on support of our audiences and donors to deliver our life-enhancing work both on and off-stage. The implications of this situation will be long-lasting for the Birmingham Hippodrome staff and volunteers, our wonderful industry and indeed the rest of the world.

We would therefore be hugely grateful if our affected customers would kindly consider an exchange, credit on account or a donation of some, or all, of the cost of your ticket to support Birmingham Hippodrome’s future. We understand that this is an extremely difficult time for many, and this option is not possible for everyone. Thank you for your continued support.

The Old Rep Theatre, Wolverhampton

LAST UPDATED FRIDAY 20TH MARCH, 11:36AM

The safety of our audience and workforce is paramount to us as we navigate this challenging time. We, therefore, regret to announce that as of today The Old Rep Theatre will close in light of the most recent official government advice. We will remain closed until further notice and will re-open as soon as possible, following government recommendations.

If you have bought tickets to a show that has been cancelled, then you are entitled to a refund/exchange we will be in touch. Please bear with us during this time.

The magic of theatre lies in its live performances and it is not something that can be experienced in the same way remotely. Its ability to lift people and entertain people even in times of difficulty is unparalleled and so we are extremely grateful to all of our audiences, who have continued to support us for as long as they can.

At this time, we must come together to support each other. Theatre as an industry relies on its audiences entirely to exist. We will rely on you now more than ever.

Many theatres that have been forced to cancel performances are charitable enterprises and have reached out to their audiences and asked for their support by donating their tickets. While ticket holders are all entitled to a refund for cancelled performances, the financial toll that refunding these tickets will have on small, charitably funded theatres is vast. We urge anyone who can afford to donate the cost of their ticket to show their support for our industry by doing so. If you would like to donate your ticket please email our Box Office team.

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre

Following advice from the UK Government which stipulates that people should avoid public buildings, including theatres, and the position adopted by the industry body, UK Theatre, Management at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre has taken the decision to extend the closure period until Sunday 19 April 2020.

For performances after 19 April, we are in discussions with producers and will keep all ticket holders informed as we continue to follow recommendations and advice from the relevant authorities.

Whilst we very much regret this decision, the welfare of our loyal patrons and our 160 employees is of the upmost importance to our organisation.

We will contact all customers who have purchased tickets for upcoming performances as soon as possible.

Customers will have the following options:

We can refund your tickets to your personal theatre account as credit to use against a future purchase. Account credit can also be used to purchase Grand Theatre Gift Vouchers.

We can refund transactions to the method of payment used when purchasing. For cash payments, refunds will be issued via a cheque which will be posted to you.

The Grand Theatre is a registered charity and relies totally on the support of our customers. You may, if you wish, donate the cost of your purchase to Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s Charity to help us safeguard our wonderful organisation in these difficult times, which has been at the heart of Wolverhampton for the past 125 years.

Please be assured you do not need to contact the Grand Theatre, customers will be contacted directly as soon as possible, and in performance date order.

We will work closely with producers during the coming weeks in order to do our best to reschedule the productions on alternative dates.

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre would like to personally thank all of the customers who are choosing to donate their ticket money or their £3 booking fee back to the theatre when the Box Office have contacted them for refunds. Your support to the safeguarding of our beloved theatre is hugely appreciated.

We wholeheartedly thank you for your patience and understating during this unprecedented and difficult time.
