Discover family-friendly events at Brighton Festival 2024

A magical celebration comes to Brighton and Sussex from 4th-26th May, with more than 120 events across music, dance, theatre, books, circus and more, with lots on offer for families and children of all ages.

This year the Guest Director is award-winning children’s author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who will be joined by icons of children’s literature Cressida Cowell (How to Train your Dragon) Julia Donaldson (The Gruffalo) and Michael Morpurgo for talks, screenings and more. Young readers can take part in workshops with authors including Alexandra Sheppard, M.G. Leonard and Sophy Henn.

In theatre and dance, The Sticky Dance invites little ones to explore and groove through a colourful world of sticky tape; The Kids Show, from sketch comedy duo Shelf, is full of songs, pranks and silliness; and You’ll See is an adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses for all ages, featuring a storyteller and a pop-up book.

There are more than 40 free events, including Ancient Giants, an exciting outdoor puppet show in Crawley and 100 Miles of String, a fun, interactive installation outdoors in the Pavilion Gardens, plus the spectacular annual Children’s Parade.
