HUNDREDS TO TAKE PART IN BREAST CANCER NOW’S PINK RIBBON WALK AT BLENHEIM PALACE

Last chance to sign up to raise vital funds for breast cancer research and support at Blenheim Palace on Saturday 11 May

There is still time to sign up to walk 10 or 20 miles at Breast Cancer Now’s Blenheim Palace Pink Ribbon Walk on Saturday 11 May.

Pink Ribbon Walks are one of Breast Cancer Now’s biggest and best-loved fundraising events – having raised more than £15 million for world class breast cancer research and support since they started in 2005.

To take part, register online at breastcancernow.org/prw by 11.59pm on Sunday 5 May or register on the day at 8am for the 20 mile walk or 10.30am for the 10 mile walk.

With every step, walkers will help Breast Cancer Now to fund world-class research and life-changing support, helping Breast Cancer Now achieve its ambition that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and live well.

Kate Rham, Head of Events at Breast Cancer Now, said: “Our amazing Pink Ribbon Walks give walkers the opportunity to explore beautiful locations across the country and to help provide vital support to those diagnosed and living with breast cancer. With your walking boots and friends and family in tow, you can make the difference to the lives of those impacted by the disease.

“One in seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. By taking part in a Pink Ribbon Walk, you’re helping to fund our pioneering research and specialist support for people affected by this devastating disease.

“Whether it’s a new challenge or breath-taking views you’re looking for, this is a chance to come together with friends, family or to walk solo, for an enjoyable day while making a real difference to anyone affected by breast cancer. We’ll be ready and waiting with a hero’s welcome, your well-earned medal and a meal to celebrate your achievement with you at the finish line.”

Walkers will be supported all the way with a clearly marked route, expert guides and regular rest stops with snacks - allowing those taking part to soak up the spectacular scenery and focus on reaching the finish line. They can also add their message to those affected by breast cancer to a pink ribbon placed along the route joining the thousands of messages we've gathered over the last 15 years.

Among the people walking will be karate instructor Michelle Williams, from Bicester, who is remembering her mum and marking the end of her own breast cancer treatment by taking part in the 10-mile walk.

Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2022 after a routine mammogram and went on to have chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy at The Churchill in Oxford. The diagnosis was even more heartbreaking because she lost her mum, Patricia Hall of Stadhampton, to the same disease 30 years earlier.

“I was lucky because mine was found quickly. My mum’s breast cancer was diagnosed late, and it had already spread. She was at The Churchill where I went on to have treatment for the same disease 30 years later,” she said.

“I’ve had a lot of support and my friends and family have been amazing. There will be a big tribe of us walking at the Pink Ribbon Walk together.”

Walking for Breast Cancer Now has never been more important. Every year, around 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK, and this number is continuing to rise. With an estimated 600,000 living with a diagnosis of breast cancer and this predicted to rise to 1.2 million in 2030, raising awareness of breast cancer and funds is more important than ever.

This year’s Pink Ribbon Walks take place at Hampton Court Palace (London) on Sunday 28 April, Blenheim Palace (Oxfordshire) on Saturday 11 May and the Bakewell Showground (Derbyshire) on Saturday 22 June.

Challenge yourself to a Pink Ribbon Walk and help fund world-class research and life-changing support. Find out more and register today at breastcancernow.org/prw
