AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER, AMMA ASANTE, ANNOUNCED AS NEW INTO FILM INDUSTRY AMBASSADOR AND CAREERS PATRON
In celebration of National Careers Week (March 4-8), education charity, Into Film, today announced the appointment of Amma Asante, MBE, as new Industry Ambassador and Careers Patron. Amma Asante is a multi-award-winning writer and director who won a BAFTA for her first film, A Way of Life and has won multiple awards for her feature films, Belle and A United Kingdom. She joins a prestigious line-up of Into Film Ambassadors including BAFTA-winning Actors, Lashana Lynch and Jack Lowden, Lucas Film CEO, Lynwen Brennan, and the multi-award-winning writer, director, actor Sir Kenneth Branagh, to name a few.
Amma Asante was the first Black director to win a BAFTA award for writing and directing a feature film and was recently listed in the Top 100 most influential people in the UK of African/African-Caribbean descent. She is currently directing a TV adaptation of the book, Smilla’s Sense of Snow.
She has worked with Into Film since 2015 supporting the charity’s fundraising efforts at ICAP Charity Day and as a regular Into Film Awards presenter. Amma’s film, United Kingdom is available to stream on Into Film’s streaming platform for schools, Into Film+. She is also featured in Into Film’s new Film Studies teaching resource celebrating Black British Filmmakers.

We’re thrilled that she’s now joining us as an Industry Ambassador, supporting in particular our programme to inspire and inform young people about screen careers. Amma knows from her own experience as a renowned filmmaker how important this work is in laying foundations for the development of a dynamic and diverse future industry workforce.”
