Sedgehill Academy Enjoys Significant Improvement with GCSE Performances
Year 11s thrilled to join the school’s Sixth Formers in celebrating their achievements this summer
This morning, Sedgehill Academy was continuing its summer of celebrations as Year 11 students received their GCSE results. These represented a significant improvement on last year’s figures, enabling many more to secure the next steps into Sixth Form and College of their choice.
This year, two thirds of Year 11s (66%) achieved a Grade 5 or higher in both English and maths – an impressive 24 percentage point increase on last year’s figures A similar trend of improvement was seen with the percentage of students achieving the two subjects at either 4+ or 7+.
81% of the year group achieved at least a Grade 4 in both English and maths, opening more doors for them as they choose their next steps at post-16.
Along with these improvements, many of the cohort were celebrating a strong overall set of GCSE grades. This included Leah who achieved an amazing seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s. Another impressive individual performance came from Kiernan, who achieved six Grade 9s, three Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and a Distinction* in the LS Extended Maths.
Leah said of her results: "I’m so happy. I love the teachers at Sedgehill, they really supported us. They gave up their time, and it’s really paid off with my grades. I’m really grateful for the opportunities they’ve given me."
With their GCSEs secured, many students are preparing to return to the school’s Sixth Form, which celebrated its Year 13 students' A Level and BTEC results last week. This year at the Sixth Form, over half (56%) of all A Level entries were graded A* to B enabling them to secure an exciting variety of academic, athletic, creative and technical next steps in their lives.
Clare Cassidy, Principal at Sedgehill Academy, said of the summer’s results: "As a Head Teacher it is wonderful to be able to celebrate these important moments in our students’ school careers. Gaining strong GCSE qualifications requires our young people to show up consistently, work hard, demonstrate ambition and push themselves. Today’s results – whether those outstanding individual achievements or those improvements across the cohort as a whole – are therefore ones we will all take great pride in.
"As we congratulate our Year 11 students for what these qualifications represent and will allow them to go on to achieve in further study, I want to thank staff and families for the part they play. So much time and support has been contributed by our whole school community and that deserves its own recognition today."
