"As the evenings draw out, we’re all beginning to think about fun outdoor activities that we can do during the warmer months with family and friends. As we dream about making those future memories; enjoying beautiful Norfolk beaches, the Norfolk Broads and rivers or fun activities like boating, surfing, paddle boarding or kayaking.
Each year children get so much out of being in and around water. However many families are not fully prepared. Quite often foreign hotel pools are not lifeguarded. Rivers, lakes and the sea pose hidden risks from tides, currents and submerged objects such as sea defences and groynes. Without the right knowledge a warm day with friends can end with tragedy. At the Norwich Penguins our aim is to make as many children safe in and around the water as possible.
Norwich Penguins have a fantastic track record and 90 years experience preparing children for being around water as well as providing the life-skills for an active lifestyle.
The Norwich Penguins run our regular term time lessons allowing children to learn each week as part of their routine, enhancing school provided opportunities. The club also run ‘Splashdown courses’. These are fun and focused intensive 4 and 5 days courses during school holidays. Our courses take children from non-swimmers to confident swimmers at all ages. Splashdown courses run daily in school holidays which gives swimmers a boost on top of their current learning. All lesson types are available at local, small pools in the city, making swimming on your doorstep possible. Our sessions are run by fully qualified and DBS checked teachers, many of whom have learnt to swim with the club. In many sessions teachers are supported by volunteers within the programme between 14-16 yrs who they themselves have learnt to swim with the club. They are able to offer support and show give demonstrations in the pool.
