What’s the going rate for the Tooth Fairy?

We’ve recently seen a survey on how much the average child gets for their milk teeth. Can it be true we ask?  We’ve compiled a small one answer survey to find out how much our readers do give the Tooth Fairy. You can be part of this survey here https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YZT8Z82

There are various traditions that we may follow, for many of us we continue our childhood memory. Many place the tooth under the child’s pillow waiting for the anticipated visit from the Tooth Fairy sprinkling their fairy dust whilst they sleep. Some parents insist that the tooth lost is clean and with no cavities; this should encourage children to regularly clean and look after their teeth.

There are mixed views on the Tooth Fairy, some parent’s claim that it is creating a fantasy figure, whilst others feel that it is a bit of innocent fun and part of child hood and growing up. A bit like Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny. Some children have special cushions where the tooth is carefully placed and is normally swapped for a shiny coin, mostly the tooth is left under a pillow, and then the fun begins “hunt the tooth” trying hard not to wake the child!

The Tooth Fairy is global but with slightly different traditions, in China the kids put their upper teeth at the foot of their beds and put their lower teeth on the roof. It is hoped that this will make their permanent teeth grow faster, children in Nepal are very protective of their lost tooth. They believe that if a bird sees or eats the tooth then a new one won’t grow in its place. So they bury their tooth in the hope that it won’t be found and eaten by a bird. In Russian they put the teeth in mouse holes in the hope that the mouse will give them a strong tooth as a replacement. Whilst in Pakistan they wrap the tooth in cotton and throw in a river at sunset, it is believed that doing this it will bring good luck.
