Greatwood School enjoys literature visit

Pupils at Greatwood School enjoyed a visit on Friday 28th September from sponsor Emma Pentelow, gifting tickets to the first Children’s Literature Festival in Skipton alongside a renowned children’s author.

Football fans in the class were especially excited to meet Tom Palmer, renowned for his sporting stories and “One of the best footballers of our time” according to The Guardian newspaper.

The author was in Skipton to participate in the literature festival run by Author’s Abroad and hosted at Broughton Hall, where sponsors, The Pentelow Practice, have an office. The wealth management firm funded tickets for pupils from eleven primary schools in Craven to attend the Festival, including twenty for lucky Greatwood pupils.

The pupils were presented with their tickets by partner Emma Pentelow, who, as the mother of two keen young readers herself, also appreciated the opportunity to meet the celebrity author.

She explains “It’s been great to be able to be part of this fantastic initiative to promote reading to the children of Craven. A passion for books is vital in fostering literacy in the next generation and this is a fantastic opportunity for the children to meet and listen to authors who’s names they have seen in print.”

As well as supporting the Festival with funding for the local ticket giveaways to schools, The Pentelow Practice ran a Little Authors writing competition for the children of its private and corporate clients in the run-up to the Festival.
