SPARKTON: New interactive online safety resource for KS2

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is proud to announce the launch of our exciting new online resource for KS2 children. The resource is free to everybody and can be found on our website: http://www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/your-safety/kids-youth/

The virtual town of Sparkton houses fun, interactive activities for children, designed to educate them about their own safety. Originally developed by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the digital consultancy Matmi, Sparkton has now been updated and improved by a group of several other fire and rescue services, including Leicestershire,

Currently there are activities around road and water safety, as well as hazards inside and out of the home. There are quizzes and interactive games, and also a ‘cinema’ showing several safety- related videos. The resources are designed for children to use independently but could also be used by teachers in the classroom.

We do aim to extend this resource to incorporate a greater range of games and other areas of safety. Ultimately this will be dependent on the level of interest we get, so please have a look and encourage your pupils to check out Sparkton, either at home or at school.

  1. Fire and Rescue is committed to educating children about their own safety, and Sparkton is the latest enhancement to our rolling programme for primary schools. For further information about all of our activities for children and young people just check out our website as above.
