Standalone Farm’s Exciting New Events for the May Half Term!

Standalone Farm will be hosting a series of exciting activities and special events this May half term and all the family are invited to join fun!

CREEPY CRITTERS
First in the line-up is Creepy Critters. Although these small creatures may not be your typical farmyard friends, our little visitors love seeing, touching and learning about nature’s greatest creepy crawlies during these daily demonstrations.

WIND IN THE WILLOWS ACTIVITIES
Look out for an exciting schedule of “Wind in the Willows” inspired activities across the farm, including arts and crafts stalls, pebble painting workshops and Greenway walking trail featuring Mr Toad, Ratty and Badger life-sized sculptures.

Willows Activity Farm’s Spring Special 25th May – 2nd June

Spring Special returns with sheep shearing demonstrations from Tuck the Shepherd, who is getting rid of the extra woolly weight from our sheep. There will also be running fun and informative Sheep Shows where you can learn lots about our different sheep breeds. Peter Rabbit and Friends will have new seasonal shows and a new activity, Find and Seek. Children can search amongst the garden to find items belonging to Peter Rabbit and his friends which they can then exchange for a prize.

Gladiators battle at Chiltern Open Air Museum

On Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend 26 - 27 May from 10 am to 5 pm, Roman Gladiators will be invading Chiltern.

Open Air Museum.Watch fearsome gladiators in action as a team of criminals, barbarians and other prisoners of war, disgraced soldiers and thrill seekers fight for the entertainment of the crowds and the Emperor. Who will live, and who will die: you decide! Meet the costumed re-enactors and learn about life in the 1st century AD with gladiatorial displays taking place at 12 and 3pm.

The gladiators will be brought to life by Britannia, who will be demonstrating the excitement and brutality of life in the late Roman period. Britannia have worked on over 150 TV and film projects, including Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and CBBC’s Horrible Histories. Lizzie Dunford, Operations Manager at Chiltern Open Air Museum, said ‘We’re delighted to be welcoming Britannia back again it’s always a brilliant, unforgettable way to teach the whole family about Roman history. Having worked on Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, Britannia’s gladiatorial combat, weapons and battle tactics are fantastic and will make you feel part of the action!’

Heroes & Villains of Riverside

On Saturday 22nd June, Heroes & Villains will be descending into Riverside Shopping Centre, inviting you and the children down to see your favourite stars and cars from the famous films! Offering free fun for all the family, this year is set to be bigger and better with plenty of photo opportunities with the likes of Spiderman, The Joker and Batman!
