Birdland to reopen in time for early summer

The latest Gloucestershire open air visitor attraction to bounce back as lockdown eases, Birdland will open its doors to the public on Monday 22 June. The Bourton-on-the-Water park in the Cotswolds is home to England’s only large grouping of king penguins, as well as a huge range of other rare and exotic birds, including cranes, finches and touracos, in a mix of free flying and aviary displays.

In common with other attractions, the centre’s capacity is reduced by the need to implement social distancing and it is inviting visitors to apply online for a date and time slot.

“We are delighted to start welcoming visitors back to Birdland,” says Manager Simon Blackwell. “Our team has been hard at work in recent weeks ensuring everything is in place to open again. We will be running two-hour slots throughout the day to adhere to social distancing recommendations.”

Initially Birdland’s indoor areas will not be open and there will be no daily talks or feeds.

“This is a particularly busy and exciting time for the park as so many of our birds are either sitting on nests or already looking after newborn chicks,” he adds. “We can offer a great experience for people to enjoy.”

Tickets go on sale from Wed 17 June. www.birdland.co.uk
