Latest news from ShowKids East London Theatre School
Like other children’s theatre schools across the country, as the lockdown was imposed on 23 March, ShowKids East London suspended their after-school workshops indefinitely. The last few months have been an uncertain time for all of us, not least for children, who have seen their schools close, their routines broken, and many of their interactions with others confined to a computer screen.
While the full impact of the lockdown on the mental health and well-being of children across the country is still unknown, at ShowKids they believe that the Performing Arts can be instrumental in rebuilding children’s confidence, creativity, and inter-personal skills. The very nature of acting, singing and dancing allows children to reconnect with themselves and with others, and develop a confidence to take on the challenges that face us all as we return to a ‘new normal’.
Since March, ShowKids have been providing their workshops online and have been amazed at how well children have engaged with each other - and the material - virtually, and ShowKids East London are currently preparing many of them for online LAMDA examinations. However, with restrictions gradually being eased, ShowKids are thrilled to be running summer holiday courses in Hackney and to be opening waiting lists for all their after-school workshops starting in September. They can’t wait to see the ShowKids face-to-face again!
