Local fostering agency holds information event to encourage prospective foster carers

A Chesterfield fostering agency is holding an information event to inform and educate prospective foster carers on a career in fostering, as the East Midlands faces a current shortfall of 500* foster carers.

As part of Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from Monday 13th – Sunday 26th May, Five Rivers Child Care, a social enterprise which operates across England, is holding an open day on Thursday May 16th at the Market Hall in Chesterfield for prospective foster carers and those interested in learning more about the profession.

Five Rivers is also looking to recruit carers to take on long-term placements, or short-term placements for children in need of urgent or respite care.

People from all walks of life can become foster carers as long as they are over 21 years of age. This includes single people, co-habiting couples, same sex couples and people living in rented accommodation – the only requirement is a private bedroom for each foster child.

The open day event will run from 9:00am-5:00pm on Thursday May 16th at the Five Rivers Chesterfield office at the Market Hall.
